Where I Thought You Were

The floor is cold against my head as I stare up at abysmal pepto walls and popcorn ceilings threatening to collapse into me. Iron lead settles in my mouth, stifling an abrupt laugh, as I realize no one’s coming for me. My nails try to dig into the 70’s tile, find a way down before this body completely gives out. My mind wanders to memories of you as I force myself to believe they were nothing more than fairytales and daydreams.
