Evolution

We live, we learn, we grow.
It’s amazing the evolution when color photos just taken drain and redden
And clouds just forming begin storming.
Haze permanently obscures the laughing moon
Blocking our memories of cloudless bug lit nights.
Shadows shift in undertones, subtly coloring the world in deepening blues.
I reached after you but you were too far gone.
Strides across the parking lot now shortened
And dagger edged words now blunted.
I stand on the shore of what could have been
Straining to pick the memories from those which tendrils of mist stole away.
We live, we learn, we grow.
We realize we’re wrong
But names appear on stones and fresh dirt churns easy,
When time has no regard for little human lives.

Perfect Moon – Friday Fictioneers

Is it the same moon we see?

Do you watch it roll slowly above the horizon, arcing gracefully?

I trace its path with an uncertain finger, lingering on the point where I dream our palms should meet.

A perfect intersection, a crossing of the souls. A perfect arcing destiny, straight into the heart from Cupid’s bow.

I wonder which plane you left on and if you’ll ever return. If you ever do, I wonder should our hearts meet again, perhaps under glistening Sun?

Dreams come true, if only for a night, a moment. If only under the perfect arcing moon.

I Dream of You …

I dream of you when I’m alone at night
When the air is cold and the moon does not light
Shadows flash framed against window panes
Remind me of gentle scratching rains
Under which you tried to dig my grave
You were weak and I was far from brave
In those woods where our trembling eyes met
You begged me not to make you do this yet
In my dreams the trees scream for me
Mounds of dirt rise up, making you see
Those are only dreams when I’m alone at night
When the moon is old and the air falls light
Into spaces between my time exposed bones
Where you left me, forever naked and alone

Fall Away From Time

WordPress Daily Prompt – Silent

Silence sounds like …
Your spirit spinning
Out of control to the DJ.
Your breath slowing
In puffs of hazy cigarette smoke.
Your heart pounding
Under the soft weight of my hand.
Your smile against
My hair under the cold moon.
The fading drops
Of my rocks failing to skip.
Your fingers drawing
Shivering lines down my back.
Silence sounds like …
All those things I feel in my soul
When your eyes lock with mine
And we fall away from time.

Moonlight Glow

WordPress Daily Prompt – Succumb

Lying here with you tonight,
You look so perfect in the moonlight.
I’m not sure how long
This will last.
How long have you been gone?
Silence greets me,
An old friend in a familiar coat.
Your dead eyes keep staring,
Into the perfect moonlight glow.
The rusty metal above
Rattles and rumbles,
Symptoms of the train hauling troubles
Over the beaten track.
Needles like pine
Litter the ground,
There’s no one else around.
I pluck the needle from your arm,
Like a mouse nursing the injured lion.
You make no move,
Your dead eyes just keep staring,
Into the fake moonlight glow.
