Smoke Screens and Jokes

I’m choking on every real life daydream;
Every fairytale, happily ever after ending.
Smoke from a fire obscuring reality,
Lit from the day we were born into this commonality.
No wonder we drug rust laden nails at each others throats,
What more was there to believe in
When the magic we were fed was all smoke screens and jokes.

Ceremony

Having been recently informed the daily prompts are coming to an end I felt the need to at least try and write something …

Patience Is a Virtue Dear

Sunday, every week ….

Prompt: Patience

Music: I couldn’t settle on one thing today so I picked a playlist on Spotify called Brain Food, it says it’s hypnotic electronic.

Patience

I’m drowning beneath the fluctuating, undulating, slowly rolling
Crushing weight of this water.

It holds me hostage, tied down by sunlight streaming, reflecting, breaking
Against the seams of who I am.

It strangles me with icy grips, threatening to rip me apart;
Pieces of paper against the downpour, soaked and floating.

Be patient is what they say, what’s meant to be …
May never have been meant for me.

But my mom taught me well,
Patience is a virtue, that’s the story they tell.

So sit with your drowning, collapsing fears.
Hold tight to your scrambling, screaming soul.

After all, patience is a virtue dear
And rescue is never near.

We grasp the daydreams
So that we become the reality.

What’s meant to be speeds overhead
Never realizing, missing, the last bubbling stand.

Sit tight with that patience there.
Help, well help is over there.

Not watching for your drowning hand,
Or your fleeting splashes.

Everything that’s meant to be
Is tied by seaweed,

Held strong to the collapsing floor;
The thin barrier between always there and nothing more.

10 minutes done.

Liar That I Am

I’ve never wanted to hurt you …
Liar that I am.
I’ve never wanted to betray you …
Imperfect as I am.
I’ve only ever wanted to feel you …
Hold me in your arms again.
But I’m a liar,
A hopeless, frantic
Romantic.
Living out a fairy tale fantasy
Crashing through reality.
Finding truth
Under moss covered mystery.
Only to unveil fools gold
Where there should be
Great poets of old.
Forgive me my love
And my liars tongue.
We only wanted the
Fairy tale ending,
Sparing the real life bending.
Now I see,
One exists in the other
But my liars tongue
Can’t stop whispering rumor.
Forgive me love,
Liar that I am,
I was never the princess
In disguise.
Only a damsel
Trying to escape demise.

Bewildering Quiet

WordPress Daily Prompt – Bewildered

I can’t explain what it is about the quiet that scares me,
Or why it sends chills down my spine
To know that someday the quiet is all we’ll know.
Maybe it’s because the worst
Always followed the quiet,
Sneaking in on its tail,
Ripping away false senses of comfort.
Perhaps it’s more,
Confusion of a heavier sort.
You see,
Within the quiet you’re faced with reality,
Not distraction.
You become forced to realize
It’s less no one hearing you scream
But more like no one cares when you do.

Trust Fall

WordPress Daily Prompt – Undulate

We’re statues against the wall, hands poised at the waist, gently braced against the chaos of our impending fall.

Tell me, what awaits us here,

In the multi-colored sphere of circles unknown to the naked eye?

Can I trust you dear?

When they push us one by one, blind folded and blind sided, off the lisp of reality into the slowly undulating waters of our fears …

Will you be there?
