Love Song – What Pegman Saw

“Greetings from Montevideo!”

I write as neatly as I can across the postcard. I even think about slipping it into an envelope with a few pictures of my own.

A landscape shot here. Maybe the view from my office. It’s just the road but I find myself hoping you’re as curious about my life as I am about yours.

Maybe I’ll even slip in a photo of the twins. They’re six now but you never knew they were born.

I’ve never made it a habit to memorize the faces I make but I know I’m cringing.

Desperation, that’s what this smells like.

I turn the postcard over in my hands, even if I sent it completely anonymous … you’d know my writing from a mile away.

I’m sure it’d reek of wrinkled love poems and tear stained confessions.

It’d just become another love song you sing to another silly girl.

Material Sounds

Prompt – Song

Music – If These Trees Could Talk – Above the Earth, Below the Sky

In my dreams you’re always singing the song

The music is always right there,

In my bedroom, in my bed, lying next to me it seems

And your voice lays over it, so serene.

Sometimes you don’t sing,

It’s only music then

And we float away to another land.

We can dance the night away,

From the kitchen to the clouds.

We exist above material sounds.

In those moments

I can feel it in my soul,

The music makes me complete

In your arms and your eyes

I get lost every time.

The music tells me it’s ok,

Your song tells me you’re ok,

Whether we’re together in these dreams

Forever or never.

Sometimes I wish I knew the song was for me.

Sweet as it may be,

These aren’t reality after all.

And my mind starts working,

Over thinking,

The way it does,

And we fall.

Just like our song.

Falling, falling.

What will happen when we hit the ground?

Stir My Soul

WordPress Daily Prompt – Focused

I’ve been sitting here,
Focusing, focusing,
But the rapping of the clock
Reminds me of the way you knock
When you lean on my door while
Stirring my soul with your chains.
A thick boiling concoction of self loathing
Heaving this way and that with an evil all its own
Threatening to tear holes straight through
Letting all the light bleed out.
You give it a siren song,
A melody so sweet,
I can’t help but feel at peace.
